Every successful entrepreneur has a “why.” For Brittany Delaney and Chrissy Akins, co-founders of Inicio Wellness, their “why” was simple: to make healthcare human again.
A New Beginning
Both nurse practitioners had spent years in corporate medicine, helping expand clinic networks across Texas. They were skilled, respected, and successful—but increasingly disillusioned.
“We were treating patients, but the system treated us like numbers,” Delaney says. “We knew there had to be a better way.”
That belief sparked Inicio Wellness—“Inicio” meaning “a new beginning” in Latin. What began as a telehealth service evolved into a hybrid practice combining modern convenience with old-fashioned attentiveness.
Building from the Ground Up
Launching a clinic was a crash course in business. They had to learn legal requirements, handle finances, and market themselves—all while caring for patients.
“Neither of us studied business,” Akins says. “It was a lot of late nights and trial and error.”
Their early success came not from ads, but from authenticity. Patients who experienced genuine care spread the word faster than any marketing campaign could.

Pivotal Partnerships
When they met Dr. Amir Baluch, their required supervising physician, they found more than oversight—they found mentorship.
“He’s a powerhouse in both medicine and entrepreneurship,” says Delaney. “He’s pushed us to think bigger and given us tools to grow wisely.”
Advice for Aspiring Entrepreneurs
They’re quick to share what they’ve learned:
-
Start with service. “If you care deeply, success follows.”
-
Invest in relationships. “Your network is your marketing.”
-
Share your story. “Authenticity connects more than strategy.”
Managing the Demands of Dual Roles
As nurse entrepreneurs, their biggest challenge is balancing heart and hustle. “You can’t leave compassion at the office,” Akins admits.
They’ve learned to outsource administrative work, automate systems, and take care of themselves to prevent burnout. “We’ve built systems around sanity,” Delaney jokes.
The Future of Inicio
Today, Inicio Wellness is expanding to Utah and exploring partnerships with InsideTracker and genotyping labs to advance personalized medicine.
Their ultimate vision is to create a nationally recognized wellness brand—one that bridges the gap between traditional and holistic medicine.
“We want to change how people think about healthcare,” says Akins. “Less about treatment, more about transformation.”
